Recent Iowa State University graduates in advertising received professional recognition for their work at the 2021 American Advertising Awards hosted by the Des Moines chapter of the American Advertising Federation Feb. 27.

One Greenlee School submission won Gold and another won Silver in the student division of the Des Moines competition, which is presented annually. This year’s ceremony included virtual and in-person events.

Davis Van Egdom (’20 advertising) earned Gold in the Print Advertising category for his “The Wait Is Over” campaign created for the Chicago Cubs. The campaign featured three ad concepts and was created as part of Greenlee’s advertising portfolio practicum course (ADVRT 436) taught by Greenlee Associate Teaching Professor Michael Wigton.

Stephen Gould (’20 advertising), Lydia Heydlauff (’20 psychology, advertising) and Anna Ehlers (’20 agricultural and life sciences education, advertising) were awarded Silver in the Online/Interactive category for their “What’s Your Day” campaign created for The Weather Channel. Their campaign, which was developed in ADVRT 436 for the Collegiate Effie competition, featured three interactive videos for social media.

Wigton entered both campaigns into the competition.

Gold winners advance to the district competition, and district winners advance to the national competition.

AAF includes members of all career levels and disciplines in advertising. AAF’s annual awards competition — known as the Addys — recognizes creative excellence and is the largest in the advertising industry, with over 35,000 entries submitted by local club competitions each year.
