The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University has named Alan and Steve Mores the recipients of its 2023 James W. Schwartz Award. The annual award recognizes distinguished service to journalism and communication and is the highest honor conferred by the school.
Iowa State University’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication will welcome new faculty member Tony Moton, assistant teaching professor, in August of 2023. Moton will address teaching, research and service in sports media at the undergraduate level.
Jan Lauren Boyles, associate professor and associate director of the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University, was selected to attend a prestigious immersion program. The initiative, designed to train leaders of journalism and mass communications schools, is supported by the Scripps Howard Foundation.
Megan Groathouse, a senior in advertising and international relations with minors in data science and German, from Waukee, Iowa, and Adriana I. Rivera Rodríguez, a senior in advertising and graphic design from Trujilo Alto, Puerto Rico, were named the winners of the 2023 Washington Media Scholars Media Plan Case Competition June 8.

Every six years, the Greenlee School has the opportunity to measure its work against national standards. Due to the ongoing pandemic during the 2020-2021 academic year, when the school would ordinarily have been reviewed, the site teams didn’t complete their visit until Fall 2022 and Spring 2023.
Mariana Gonzalez and Anna Olson both received the Wallace E. Barron All-University Senior award, which recognizes outstanding seniors who display high character, outstanding achievement in academics and university/community activities, and promise for continuing these exemplary qualities as alumni. Gonzalez and Olson were two of seven Iowa State University students selected for this prestigious Iowa State University Alumni Association award.
About 60% of people believe that the media perpetuates faith-based stereotypes rather than protecting against them, according to a survey by HarrisX. On Wednesday, local faith and media leaders joined together during the “Covering Faith: Facts & Friction in the News Media” First Amendment Days event to discuss solutions on how they can cooperate to bring religion back into local media in good faith.
