Major in Public Relations
A degree in public relations from the Greenlee School will provide you with the concepts, skills and expertise needed to help organizations build mutually-beneficial relationships with diverse publics. The knowledge and tools you'll develop through the P R curriculum ensure you can enter fields such as corporate communication, government affairs and public relations firms. You will learn to create and manage brands, communicate using strategies and tactics, handle crisis communication and carry out information campaigns as you study the latest public relations trends and industry practices. The capstone professional internship experience, coupled with coursework that focuses heavily on writing, research and professional abilities will provide opportunities for you to practice and refine your skills. In 2017, our public relations program was approved for certification by the Public Relations Society of America Board.
Greenlee School public relations students have interned at Weber Shandwick, Caesars Entertainment, Spong PR (now Carmichael Lynch Relate), Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Baltimore Ravens and many other agencies, firms, businesses and government entities.
All Greenlee majors are required to pass a grammar test prior to enrolling in JL MC 201: Reporting and Writing for the Mass Media. Learn more about the Poynter Institute Exam (PIE).
