Bio

Jan Lauren Boyles joined Greenlee from the Pew Research Center in Washington. Boyles previously served as a Google Journalism Fellow and as Director of Advising at West Virginia University’s Reed College of Media. She currently serves as Associate Editor for Digital Journalism, after serving as the journal's International Engagement Editor. This year, she is slated to be a Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford's Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. She is immediate past chair of AEJMC's Council of Divisions and concluded her four-year term on the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Board of Directors in 2023. At Iowa State, she has received the Early Achievement in Teaching Award and Graduate Student Mentoring Award from ISU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. A native of Fairmont, West Virginia, Boyles began her career as a newspaper journalist. Her research at ISU centers on the intersections of news, data/code and civic technology.
