Meredith Apprentice Program

The Greenlee School has a unique connection with Meredith Corporation, a leading media and marketing services company headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa. The Meredith Apprentice Program allows ten Iowa State students to work throughout the academic year in one of three different apprenticeship opportunities:

The apprentices work in various departments located in Meredith's Des Moines office. Assignments vary each year; past apprentices have worked for Meredith publications, websites and departments including Better Homes and Gardens, Meredith Agrimedia, Diabetic Living and more. The Greenlee School is responsible for selecting students for the five editorial, three graphic design and two digital/social media apprenticeships.

These paid apprenticeships offer real-world work experience and can be used for Greenlee students' JL MC 499A credit. As an apprentice, you'll work 15-20 hours each week during the school year. Past apprentices have laid out pages, helped with photo shoots, taste-tested recipes, written stories and social media posts and produced content for web and radio. In addition to experience, you'll have professional networking opportunities, which can help land your dream job. Many former apprentices go on to work at Meredith Corporation. Others have worked at E! News, Glamour, This Old House, Billboard, and Men’s Journal.

An informational meeting for the following year's program is typically held in February, applications are due in March and interviews are conducted in April. The application is made available each year in February.

Deb Gibson, Greenlee senior lecturer and Meredith Professional in Residence, leads the Iowa State program. Email her at dsgibson@iastate.edu with questions.

The Meredith Apprentice Program application period for the 2018-19 academic year is now closed.
