Greenlee School students earn national recognition at Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts

Two students from the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University havStudent standing behind camera in studio capturing reporter talking at the camera.e been honored with an Award of Excellence in the prestigious Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts. The national competition showcases the best in creative work from students and faculty in electronic communication.

Carson Duinink and Abby Altman received the award for their project, Country Band Thrives Despite Distance, produced as part of their work in the JLMC 3080 course, Electronic Media Production. The work was recognized for demonstrating innovative storytelling and technical skill in the Television Short Feature Reporting category.

“Being recognized for excellence by the Broadcast Education Association is an incredible honor and accomplishment,” said Duinink. “I’m grateful to be able to tell stories that can make a difference and connect with people.”

Altman added, “The opportunities present in Greenlee and in these classes are something you don’t see in every school. Being recognized on a national level is an incredible honor, and I am so grateful.”

The BEA Festival of Media Arts is a refereed exhibition of faculty creative activities and a national showcase for student work. The Festival provides a venue for exhibition of winning submissions, including recognition of project authors, through showcase and awards sessions held during BEA’s annual convention in Las Vegas.

“We are incredibly proud to see Carson and Abby’s creativity and hard work recognized on a national stage,” said James McNab, assistant teaching professor and JLMC 3080 instructor for the Greenlee School. “This award is a testament to both their talent and the high-quality, hands-on education they receive here at the Greenlee School. It’s a remarkable achievement.”
