Joel Geske, associate professor in advertising, is the first recipient of the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication’s Allen Essman Faculty Fellowship made possible by Iowa State alumna, Denise Essman (marketing, 1973). The inaugural Faculty Fellowship rewards an advertising professor who has demonstrated excellence in their profession.
Kim Guthrie, President of Cox Media Group and Iowa State University alumna in journalism, will present the Greenlee School’s 2018 Futures Forum, “From the Iowa Cornfield to the New York Boardroom,” Oct. 4. The lecture will begin at 4 p.m. in the Memorial Union Campanile Room. Refreshments will be available at 3:30 p.m.
Sara Wyant, president and founder of Agri-Pulse Communications Inc., the nation’s largest communications firm focused on agricultural and rural policy issues, will present the 2018 William K. Deal Endowed Leadership Lecture Oct. 2 at Iowa State University. Wyant earned a degree in journalism and mass communications from Iowa State in 1980.
William F. “Bill” Tubbs, co-owner and co-publisher of the Eldridge North Scott Press and Wilton-Durant Advocate News and longtime supporter of journalism education, will receive the Greenlee School’s 2018 James W. Schwartz Award. The annual award recognizes distinguished service to journalism and communication.
Kelsey Kremer (’13 journalism) and Maia Zewert (’15 journalism) have been named 2018 Iowa STATEment Makers by the the Iowa State University Alumni Association. Read more about them and the other 19 alumni who’ve been honored this year.
Thomas Emmerson, professor emeritus in the Greenlee School, will be honored by the Iowa State University Alumni Association on May 18 at 5:30 p.m. for his impact on his former students’ professional or personal lives.

Margaret “Margy” Chamberlin accepted the 2017 James W. Schwartz Award Oct. 27 at a presentation ceremony at Hamilton Hall. The award honors Margy and her late husband, Gene, for their distinguished service to journalism as longtime publishers of the Mobridge (South Dakota) Tribune.
Kelly Howard, CEO of EigthSixtySouth and Iowa State alumna, will discuss the business side of public relations and how to succeed in internships at the Greenlee School’s Fall 2017 Futures Forum.
