Boyles Submits Entries for Encyclopedia of Big Data, Presents Research on Race Portrayal

Assistant Professor Jan Lauren Boyles has completed two entries for the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Big Data. Also in research, Boyles and undergraduate student Susan Cruz-Rodriguez presented a poster at ISU’s McNair Scholars Symposium this month. The research, which will continue into next year, focuses on the portrayal of race within data-driven news narratives.

In teaching, Boyles is updating her JL MC 474 (Communication, Technology & Social Change) course for offering online in summer school. In service, Boyles is reviewing a manuscript for Newspaper Research Journal and is coordinating the review process for AEJMC’s Newspaper and Online News Division.
