Newell Reports Teaching Updates

Associate Professor Jay Newell reports the highlight of his Ad Principles course this month was a Wednesday Wake Up Call Skype with Jamie Lauten, a media planner with the digital agency Razorfish in Seattle who works on the Hulu and Nike accounts.

“Jamie credits getting her job to following up on a years-ago Wednesday Wake Up call with Evonna Sweis, ’13, (Leo Burnett, Chicago) that led to a meeting in Chicago that introduced her to Razorfish staffers,” Newell writes. “At least one of the current Ad Principles students has scheduled a meeting with Jamie in Seattle. Perhaps there is a circle of ad life.”

Earlier this month Newell conducted a roundtable for the ISU Big Data group on teaching analytics and big data at the undergraduate level. Faculty from Engineering, Business, Computer Science and Greenlee discussed the challenges of bringing undergrads to data rich environments. [Su Jung Kim]()’s audience analysis course and the Computational Communication: Ad Creative course are among the few at ISU that are taking steps to address issues of big data.
