First Amendment Days

Talk is Cheap. Free Speech Isn't.

Celebrate your First Amendment freedoms — religion, speech, press, assembly and petition — during First Amendment Days, which will take place April 11-13, 2018, on the Iowa State University campus. Now in its 16th year, First Amendment Days is organized by the First Amendment Committee, which is made up of members of the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, the Iowa State Daily Media Group and the Leo Mores Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

First Amendment Days 2018 features three days of programming for the Iowa State community and beyond.

  • Wednesday: Depth and Dialogue sessions and public lectures given by former GOP Senate staffer Kirsten Anderson and Canadian constitutional law scholar John Whyte
  • Thursday: Democalypse March, Feast on the First, Hashtag Mosaic with Photo Booth and a keynote lecture given by Paul Kix, author, magazine editor and Greenlee alumnus
  • Friday: First Amendment Workshop, Greenlee School and Kappa Tau Alpha Diversity & Inclusion Awards Presentation and Free Expression through Artmaking
