Twenty-seven employees with student services or academic advising roles are recipients of Iowa State’s Innovation and Exceptional Advising During COVID Award. The recognition, organized in the provost’s office, honors employees who “went above and beyond in their academic advising from spring 2020 through fall 2021” in response to the COVID-19 world pandemic.
Students in PR 321 have partnered with the Cardinal and Gold student advertising agency to create an inclusive love Valentine’s Day promotion coined “Cynificant Other.” The promotion encourages students to abandon the typical Valentine’s Day ideals and focus on the wider spectrum of love experienced between everyone people care for.
The White House Historical Association in partnership with Iowa State University’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication and the White House Correspondents’ Association, have awarded student Cooper Pierce with the Hugh S. Sidey Scholarship in Print Journalism.
Students working on their capstone project to raise awareness of misinformation in the Asian American Pacific Islander Community are participating in a national competition to stop targeted violence. In the class Public Relations Campaigns course, (PR 424) students have worked throughout the semester to create “The Pear Podcast” which emphasizes the effects that misinformation has on different cultures and communities.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) has selected Meg Grice as the Fall 2021 LAS student marshal. Grice is from Humboldt, Iowa, and is graduating with honors with a degree in public relations, second major in international studies and minors in general business and French.
Jan Lauren Boyles, associate professor and director of graduate education in the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, has been named faculty fellow in the office of the senior vice president and provost for a two-year term.
Freelance photographer for many high-profile clients such as the Associated Press, Getty Images and The New York Times, Leigh Vogel will share industry tips and career advice on multimedia storytelling with students at the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication’s 2021 Futures Forum at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, in the Memorial Union’s Cardinal Room.

The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University has named Debra Solberg Gibson the recipient of its 2021 James W. Schwartz Award. Gibson will be recognized at the Oct. 1 Greenlee School Advisory Council Meeting and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Honors and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 21.
Colton Boyd, a recent graduate in advertising from Indianola, Iowa, and Lydia Wede, a senior in public relations and international studies from Oakland, Iowa, were named the winners of the 2021 Washington Media Scholars Media Plan Case Competition June 10.
